Panic gripped a Badlapur family on Thursday after a minor schoolgirl failed to return home at her usual time, prompting her parents to alert police, who have launched a search and begun investigations into her disappearance.
A minor girl studying at a private English-medium school in Badlapur, on the outskirts of Mumbai, was reported missing on Thursday afternoon after she failed to return home at her usual time of around 12.30 pm.
The delay immediately alarmed her parents, who said the child followed a consistent routine and had never been late without informing them.
According to the family, the girl typically leaves the school premises after classes and reaches home shortly thereafter. When she did not arrive even after a considerable wait, her parents began searching the neighbourhood and contacting relatives and acquaintances.
Unable to trace her whereabouts, they approached the local police station and lodged a missing person complaint.
Police officials confirmed that the complaint was registered promptly and the case was taken up on priority, given the age of the child and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
