NEW DELHI: In the wake of recent decision by Delhi Police to penalize vehicles obstructing the way of ambulances and PCR vans, a white Mercedes car bearing a VIP registration number will become the maiden defaulter to pay the fine of Rs. 2000.

The errant car had not given way to an ambulance carrying a heart from FMRI, Gurgaon to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in Delhi. An uninterrupted passage — a Green Corridor — was created to cover the 32km stretch between the two hospitals by Gurgaon and Delhi Police. The vehicle was caught on video by a pilot vehicle which was leading the way for the ambulance. The vehicle was fitted with a rear camera.

“We have traced the owner through its registration number and an officer will be sent to his residence with a challan of Rs 2000,” said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander.

According to the recent circular issued by Delhi Police, on roads with three or more lanes, the extreme right lane will have to be freed for passage of emergency response vehicles if sirens are sounded by them.
