23-year-old Sohan Anil Manjrekar from Dombivli, Maharashtra, secured an extraordinary All India Rank (AIR) 3 in the highly competitive ICAI CA Final examinations with an aggregate score of 78.83% (473/600). This historic feat, which makes him the top scorer in Maharashtra, was achieved through disciplined preparation and deep emotional resilience following the tragic loss of his mother to COVID-19 five years ago. Supported by his father and sister, Sohan balanced a rigorous statutory audit articleship at Deloitte with healthy daily routines.
His success highlights a major new development in professional examinations: adapting study strategies to counter AI-driven question paper patterns that target previously overlooked, microscopic sub-topics. Sohan’s stellar performance in the CA Final is the culmination of a consistently brilliant academic journey. He previously scored 91.8% in Class X, 89.35% in Class XII, and completed his Bachelor of Commerce at Mulund College of Commerce. He cracked the CA Foundation right after school and secured AIR 6 in the CA Intermediate exams in May 2023.
Cracking the AI-Driven Exam Pattern
What sets Sohan’s success apart is his ability to decode a modern challenge: the changing nature of ICAI question patterns influenced by AI tools. He observed that traditional preparation methods—like relying solely on past years’ papers or memorizing high-weightage topics flagged by coaching institutes—are no longer sufficient.
With AI being utilized to frame question papers, examiners are now highlighting microscopic, often overlooked sub-topics and turning them into high-stakes, 7-mark questions. To tackle this, Sohan replaced “low-weightage” safety gaps with a comprehensive, end-to-end reading of the entire study material. His technical prowess is vividly clear across all subjects, scoring 85 in Financial Reporting, 83 in Financial Management, 81 in Indirect Taxation, 78 each in Advanced Auditing and Direct Taxation, and 68 in Integrated Business Solutions, culminating in a brilliant 473 out of 600 marks.
Deconstructing the “Isolation Myth”
Sohan completely rejects the idea that cracking the CA Final requires absolute isolation from society. His blueprint for success balanced demanding corporate exposure with healthy personal habits. He completed a two-year corporate articleship in Statutory Audit at Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP, Pune, which taught him elite time management. Instead of pulling erratic all-nighters, he maintained a steady routine of 8 to 10 hours of daily study using structured target-setting. He strongly credits keeping a normal social life, staying close to family, and pursuing hobbies as vital tools to prevent burnout.
Now a qualified Chartered Accountant, Sohan aims to enter the corporate financial sector to apply his audit expertise, with long-term plans to pursue an MBA in Finance. His core advice to future aspirants is to remain deeply honest with themselves and accurately measure their efforts to achieve the right outcome.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
Sohan Manjrekar’s journey is a beautiful reminder that profound grief can be channeled into a quiet, enduring strength when supported by a compassionate family ecosystem. At a time when competitive exam preparation is often associated with toxic isolation, extreme pressure, and severe burnout, Sohan’s approach offers a refreshing and necessary alternative.
He proves that academic excellence does not require us to sacrifice our mental health, our relationships, or our humanity. Furthermore, his ability to adapt to AI-driven exam patterns shows the importance of evolving mindsets in a changing technological landscape. True education lies not in rote learning, but in honesty, adaptability, and emotional balance.
