A student at Lucknow’s Ram Swaroop University, Anmol Patwa, was brutally attacked on 15 September after intervening to protect a female friend from harassment near the campus. Stabbed multiple times and assaulted with hot oil, Anmol is now hospitalised.

The police have registered a case against three named suspects-Pranav Mishra, Utkarsh Shukla, and Shivam Singh-and several unidentified accomplices. The incident, captured on video, has reignited concerns about campus safety and triggered public outcry, with authorities promising vigorous action against the culprits.

Brutal Assault After Act of Courage

The violent episode unfolded when Anmol stepped in to help his friend’s sister, who had earlier fainted during a heated argument with her boyfriend. After the confrontation, both Anmol and his friend Parul received threats from the accused and their allies, who also misbehaved with Parul and warned of severe consequences.

The following evening, as Anmol stopped at a general store close to the university campus, the group allegedly ambushed him. Witnesses reported that Anmol was stabbed four to five times, his hand was thrust into a hot pan of oil, and his chain was snatched before the attackers fled on a motorcycle. The attack was partly captured on a viral video, drawing widespread attention and outrage.

Police Response and Official Statements

Police swiftly filed an FIR against the three main suspects and at least three or four unidentified associates. Authorities confirmed that the accused have been identified and stated, “Efforts are under way to arrest all the culprits involved. No one will be spared.” Senior officers pledged to monitor the university area more closely, and additional patrols have been deployed to reassure students and staff.

Police are also collaborating with university security to ensure safer conditions on campus in the wake of renewed public anxiety.

Growing Tensions Amid Broader Campus Unrest

This incident is the latest in a series of violent episodes and protests at Shri Ramswaroop Memorial University. Earlier in September, students clashed with police over issues including fee hikes and law course accreditation, which led to a heavy-handed police lathicharge and the arrest of several outsiders accused of fuelling unrest.

Student groups and parents have demanded answers, accountability, and the removal of alleged illegal structures on campus. The Barabanki administration recently responded by demolishing contested buildings and promising better oversight. Despite these steps, the broader climate remains tense, with many calling for more comprehensive reforms and judicial scrutiny of administrative decisions.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

What happened to Anmol Patwa is deeply disturbing and underscores the urgent need for dialogue and practical change. Young people showing integrity and moral courage deserve protection and recognition, not violence.

The Logical Indian believes campuses must be havens for mutual respect and justice, with every stakeholder-from students to authorities-held accountable for upholding those values.
