A missing person complaint in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow has unravelled into an alleged murder case, with police arresting an Ola cab driver and his alleged girlfriend for the suspected murder of the driver’s wife.
According to police, the woman was allegedly killed after objecting to the husband’s relationship with another woman, following which her body was dumped in the Gomti River in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Investigators claim the accused later filed a missing person complaint to create an alibi and mislead both the victim’s family and the authorities. The victim’s body was recovered from the Gomti River on July 31 and was subsequently identified by her family, prompting a homicide investigation.
Police say the husband allegedly confessed during questioning, although the legal admissibility of any confession will depend on judicial procedures and corroborating evidence. Authorities have arrested both accused, seized jewellery worth around ₹10 lakh, two mobile phones and the vehicle allegedly used in the crime, while also verifying the husband’s criminal background.
