VVIP Culture & Misuse Of Privileges: After Devendra Fadnavis, It’s Kiren Rijiju

After the Maharashtra Chief Minister caused a social media uproar and faced accusations of indulging in VIP culture, it is Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s turn to face outrage.

On 24 June, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju delayed an Air India flight that was bound for Delhi from Leh. In addition to this, he offloaded 3 passengers from the plane – including a child – to adjust himself and his personal assistant. As a result of this, the flight was delayed by around 1 hour.

However, Kiren Rijiju isn’t accepting the allegations, stating that the delay was due to a technical slag. This news comes after the June 29 incident where the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis allegedly delayed a flight to the US which had over 250 passengers.

This had happened after the principal secretary of the Maharashtra Chief Minister carried an old passport instead of the new passport to the airport. However, Air India kept its stance by giving the issue the name of a technical problem and Devendra Fadnavis continued saying that the claims made against him were false and misleading. But, an email exchange tells a completely different story. The email that Air India duty managers sent to the CMD and Executive Director clearly indicate that the CM and his delegation were directly involved in delaying the flight by 26 minutes, after which the flight had to wait another 31 minutes as it had missed its slot for departure.

The Logical Indian community believes that acts of misuse of power must be avoided by the ministers as they should set up good examples for the general public to follow. Laws should be the same for everyone, and ministers should not break the laws or pressurize airlines to delay the flight for their vested interests. In this regard the truth should be brought forward and strict actions need to be taken if the ministers are found guilty.
