Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) known for its role in demolishing the Babri Masjid and criticised for its association with mob lynch groups is all set to launch its university named ‘Ashok Singhal Ved Vigyan Evam Praudyogikee Vishwavidyalaya’, which will begin classes from the next academic year, ANI reported.

The university is going to be established in Gurugram and will be designed in a way that it looks like a ‘trishul’ with an ‘Om’ symbol in the middle of its stem.

With an objective of re-establishing India as Vishwaguru, the university would take the Vedic methods of teaching into practice. The institution aims at providing the youth with a mix of modern and Vedic courses of studies.

“The campus will also teach students hymns from the four Vedas. Upanishads and extracts from the Bhagavad Gita shall be displayed throughout the campus all through the day by the way of mass media and televised broadcasting,” senior VHP functionary told the media.

Currently, under construction, the university will span across an area of 39.68 acres and is planned to be developed in phases, the ANI stated in its report.

Around 20 specialised courses – including Krishi Tantram (Agriculture), Vastu Tantram (Architecture), Environmental Science, Lipi Vigyan Palaeography (the study of ancient and historical handwriting), and Ayurveda will be offered to students from the first academic session. It aims to follow the National Education Policy, 2019.

The university will be named after the long-serving working president of VHP, Ashok Singhal, who played a big role in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi dispute.

Currently, the RSS-affiliate group runs colleges and schools across the country. This will be the first time VHP will enter the sector of higher education.
