The United Nations Security Council has agreed for a closed-door meeting on the abrogation of Article 370 from Kashmir issue on China’s request after Pakistan wrote to the international body.
As per a report by NDTV, the meeting is scheduled for discussion in Poland, which is the President of UNSC for the month of August at 10:00 am local time (7:30 pm IST). This is the second time the neighbouring state has taken the issue to the UNSC. In 1964-65 Pakistan took Kashmir to UNSC under agenda item ‘The India-Pakistan question’.
While India’s stands firm on Kashmir being an integral part of its territory and hence is an ‘internal matter’, Pakistan is thumping its chest, terming the ‘closed-door consultations’ as a big diplomatic victory.
Earlier, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had urged India and Pakistan to exercise “maximum restraint” and refrain from taking steps that could affect the status of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per a Times of India report, Islamabad has threatened the US to withdraw troops from the Afghanistan border and place it on the Indian side knowing that without US support, it cannot revive. This is despite the fact that the Islamic nation faces a threat of being blacklisted by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and an economy on the verge of collapse, yet its desperation on the Kashmir issue and especially for Pakistan occupied Kashmir continues.
