93 Students From Telangana’s Tribal & Social Welfare Schools Prove Their Mettle By Cracking JEE-Advanced

A total of 93 students of Telangana’s welfare schools have cracked JEE-Advanced and are now qualified for admissions at IITs around India. In May this year, 506 students from the schools had cracked the JEE-Mains.

Among the total 93, 20 students from social welfare institutes and 27 from tribal welfare residential institutes will get admission in IITs. The rest of the 46 students will get into IIT preparatory courses.

Several of these successful students are first generation learners from their tribal hamlets and rural villages. The number of social and tribal welfare students securing IIT has increased to 93 in 2019 from 36 in 2018.

Students of social and tribal welfare residential educational institutions under the KG-PG mission were being provided free intensive long-term IIT residential coaching program under the guidance of secretary RS Praveen Kumar, TS Social Welfare Gurukula Educational Institutions.

Most of the students who have cracked the exam this year are children of drivers, masons, roadside tea sellers, landless labourers, security guards, daily wage labourers, taxi drivers and domestic househelps belonging to the ST and SC communities.


Students Prove Their Mettle

All India rank of 156 was secured by K Srinivas Kalyan and the 205th rank in the SC category was bagged by Rathod Anand Kishore. Vidwan Gagan secured the 847th rank in the ST category. D Praveen Kumar and Rajinikesh Vardhan secured the 1770th rank.

“It is immensely satisfying to see that hundreds of students from SC/ST communities are creating a mark for themselves in the country’s toughest exam and this success means a lot to them and their poverty-stricken families,” The News Minute quoted secretary Praveen Kumar as saying.

Last month, the students of the welfare schools proved their mettle both in the intermediate board and Class X results by outperforming by a big margin other government colleges and private colleges in the state.

As compared to the state’s average pass percentage of 64.8%, students of the welfare institutions surpassed the state average with a pass percentage of 84.31% in the senior inter results.

Of the total 142 schools, nine schools had 100% pass results in Class X.
