Delhi: Upset Over Being Allegedly Humiliated By Teacher, 12-Year-Old Girl Hangs Herself

A class 7 student in West Delhi hung herself from the ceiling fan at her home on Saturday because she was allegedly upset over her teacher scolding her in school every day. On her hand, she had written her teacher’s name and also mentioned that she did not wish to go to school anymore. According to police, a suicide note has also been found.

She had scribbled on one of her palms: “Lord Krishna, I am coming”. On the other palm, she wrote “I love you” for her mother.

“On her palms and hands, she wrote that she did not want to go to school any more. She apologised to her mother and grandmother and said she was going to meet Lord Krishna,” senior police officer Madhup Tiwari said.

What the girl’s mother has to say

The 12-year-old girl’s mother, who is a lawyer, left for the Tis Hazari Court after her daughter refused to go to the school that day. She returned home at 4 PM to find her daughter’s body hanging from a ceiling fan, said a report by NDTV.

Breaking down, the mother said that her daughter kept complaining that the teacher whose name she had written scolded her every day. The same teacher rebuked and humiliated her on Friday for 10 minutes in the biology lab. She cried in the school bathroom after the episode, she said.

Her mother also claimed that after her daughter’s death, a friend of her daughter told her that the girl was very upset because two of her teachers had called the ‘characterless’ before the entire classroom, reported Hindustan Times.

“I was planning to take her out on her birthday this December 20. But now she has left us. I should have changed her school,” she said.

She further said that although her daughter had been insisting that her school be changed, she did not realize how serious the situation had become. She never imagined that her daughter would commit suicide.

Investigation being carried out

A statement by the school management said that besides completely cooperating with the police, an internal inquiry was also being carried out, but they did not wish to reveal details that might jeopardise the case’s investigation.

The police are speaking to the deceased’s classmates and waiting for her autopsy report.

While the details of what led the little girl to take her own life are yet to be revealed, it should be kept in mind that she was evidently facing troubles at school. If her allegations are true then the teachers, who at times can risk becoming jaded, should take more care in dealing with the students. The Logical Indian urges authorities to investigate the matter and take strict action against the accused.
