Famed Bollywood singer Shaan was allegedly jeered at and shelled with stones and paper balls after he sang a Bengali song at a concert in Guwahati’s Sarusajai stadium in Assam.
Shaan, who was allegedly attacked on October 28 by people in the audience with stones and paper balls at a concert in Guwahati after he began singing a Bengali song, took to Twitter to say that one unfortunate incident should not blacken the image of the state.
In a reply to a fan who could not attend his concert, he tweeted, “ Just for the records …loved my Assam Tour!! Saw the most fascinating sights…made new friends..had huge turnouts at every concert. Over one unfortunate incident, it would be very wrong to Tarnish this Beautifull State!!! Whatever happened was in the heat of the moment.”

Shaan says no stones were pelted
News18 reported that on social media, a video had been making rounds on social media where the people can be heard shouting, “This is Assam and not Bengal”. Also shown in the footage is Shaan requesting the crowd to not make it political. Reportedly, he told the audience members that he performed despite being unwell. Reportedly, Shaan stopped his performance soon after and went backstage. He resumed the performance after being requested by the organisers.
However, Shaan, after facing online backlash has come out with the clarification. He tweeted the actual incident and said that the new reports of stones being pelted are complete lies. “Complete lies!!! One Paper ticket folded up was thrown on stage by One Person after vigorously gesturing and shouting to stop singing. That’s all … please stop these wild speculations and lies,” he wrote.-

Moreover, The Telegraph reported Assistant commissioner of police, Basistha, Nandini Kakati, who was present at the spot, as saying that he does not know who spread the stone pelting rumours and that the news is absolutely false. Reportedly, President of NGO Krishak Shramik Unnayan Parishad Pradip Kalita has filed an FIR against Amardeep Paul, founder of North Eastern Economical Development Society. The former alleged that Paul had spread the stone pelting rumours on social media.
The alleged act of throwing paper balls and hurling abuses at the singer, if taken place, should be condemned. At the same time, Shaan’s responses in trying to diffuse the situation in a responsible manner are commendable. While people tried to bash the state as a whole, Shaan reiterated that one incident cannot be used to generalise the state.
