Students of a Moradabad engineering college are claiming to have invented a drone security system for women’s safety, which is equipped with GPS.
Named ‘sandal drone’, the system uses circuits in a ‘sandal’ (footwear) in order to send an alert to a drone when a woman wearing it triggers an alarm.
What Is The ‘Sandal Drone’ System?
Using a shock system that the footwear will generate on mildly pressing a panic button, a woman can hit her assaulter or any perpetrator.
As the woman sends a distress signal, a drone will fly towards her using the GPS. Further, it will sound an alarm so that people nearby can rush to her help.
“In India, rape and sexual assaults is a big problem. Hence, we have made use of a sandal and drone to create a safety system. The sandal is equipped with a panic button which can be triggered with a mild press during the time of need. It will generate a shock system which she can use to hit her assaulter,” NDTV quoted Diwakar Sharma, one of the students involved in the project, as saying.
An electric shock will be generated and a drone movement will be triggered as soon as the panic button pressed.

The students also shared details on how this sandal drone system will be connected to the nearest police station.
“The sandal will send the location of the girl to her family and police with a message. It will also send a signal to the drone,” Sharma said.
The distress signal will prompt the drone to fly towards the woman in trouble using the GPS. Also, the drone is capable of recording a video, which will later help police to investigate the crime.
According to the professor under whose guidance the students completed the project, this technology can be converted into a product that can be sold in the market.
He further said that the college is planning to patent it, and provide some of the girls with prototypes of the sandal drone security system.
