Following a Supreme Court directive, the Unnao rape survivor was shifted from a Lucknow hospital to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi on Monday night.

The SC had directed the UP government to airlift the Unnao rape survivor to Delhi from Lucknow. But her parents had urged the apex court not to transfer her then as her treatment was going on and her condition was critical. The 19-year-old survivor was critically injured along with her lawyer and her two aunts were killed when their car was hit by a truck last week, on July 28.

At the same time, a Delhi court Monday directed the police to shift the main accused and expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, to Tihar jail in Delhi from the Sitapur prison in Uttar Pradesh. Sengar along with his brother and a few others is accused of raping the girl, who was minor at the time of the incident, at his residence in Unnao in 2017.

The court further stated to hear arguments on framing of rape and other charges against Sengar and others on 7 August.

Rape Accused Sengar Holds Press Conference Outside Jail

Meanwhile, the accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar on Monday held a press conference outside a jail in Uttar Pradesh. Calling it a mockery of law and order, AAP Telangana tweeted,

Several people on Twitter questioned the legality of a jail inmate holding a press conference outside the jail.

“How’s it possible?? How can he hold a press conference! And Cops standing and allowing him to interact with media!! Is it allowed? Or a special case or treatment for Mr. Sengar?!,” posted a Twitter user.

Case Till Now

The Supreme Court had on August 1, ordered the transfer of all the five cases including ‘truck accident’ case from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi and all cases to be heard on a day to day basis and completed within 45 days.

The other four cases include the case in relation to rape of the minor victim on June 4, 2017; a false case registered against the victim’s father under the Arms Act; the custodial death of the victim’s father; and the second instance of a gang rape of the survivor on June 11, 2017.

The court also ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to give Rs 25 Lakh compensation to the girl. Apart from that, it also asked the UP government to provide CRPF security cover to the mother and siblings of the rape survivor, and also to the lawyer.
