Uttar Pradesh: Cop Among Two Killed In Clashes Over Cow Slaughter Rumour

On December 3, Monday, a police inspector from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district and a civilian were killed in clashes that broke out in Shyana area over alleged cow slaughter. Reportedly, the situation is tensed in the area, due to which heavy police force is deployed to maintain law and order.



Cop killed in the clash

The Logical Indian spoke to the UP Police IG, Meerut Zone, Ram Singh, who confirmed the killing of the cop. He said, “Inspector Subodh Kumar died and another injured policeman is admitted to the hospital.”

The incident took place when a few people started to protest in the area after they found the alleged carcass of a cow in the field, said the District Magistrate to The Indian Express. Allegedly, the mob was also protesting against illegal slaughterhouses, reports The Quint.

The District Magistrate further said that the protestors had blocked the roads in the area after the carcass of a cow was found. Following this, the police were informed about the incident. When the police reached the spot to get the roads opened, some unknown people started pelting stones at the at the police.

According to The Indian Express, while responding to the pelting, the police open fired to scatter the mob. However, the mob did not pacify instead it went on a rampant to vandalise police station and the police van. IG Ram Singh further told us that at least 10 vehicles were torched by the angry crowd.

In the scuffle that erupted between the cops and the unknown protestors a the police inspector, Subodh Verma of Shyana police station got killed said the Civil Lines (Aligarh) police official. The officer further told The Indian Express, “The killed police officer has been identified as Inspector Subodh Verma, who was injured in the attack and was declared brought dead in the hospital.”

Right wing allegedly behind it

The District Magistrate and Senior police officials visited the spot to check the situation of the area. There are reports that Hindu Yuva Vahini and Bajrang Dal activists were behind the vandalism of the vehicles and the attack on police officials, as reported by The Quint.

According to The Quint, there are further reports that the youth named Sumit also succumbed to bullet injuries that he received during the clash.

After the incident, the situation has worsened in the area, policemen from several police stations have been asked to move to the location to take control of the situation, police said, as reported by The Quint. Reportedly a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be probing the matter.
