Following reports of paper leak, Gujarat Police constable recruitment exam was cancelled hours before it was scheduled to start on Sunday, December 2. According to an official, the exam was scheduled to begin at 3 pm on Sunday for around 8.75 lakh candidates in 2,440 centers across Gujarat.
The applicants were set to take the exam for 9,713 unarmed police constable jobs. Reportedly, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has ordered probe.
Who were involved?
BJP members Mukesh Chaudhary and Manhar Patel, Sub-inspector PV Patel along with a hostel owner, Rupal Sharma were arrested the next day after a complaint was filed. Another accused, Yashpal Solanki, who is an employee of Vadodara Municipal Corporation is yet to be arrested, reported The Hindustan Times.
“Somebody sent me a list of answers, and they were answers to the questions set for the examination. We called off the examination as it was clear that the paper had been leaked,” News18 quoted Vikas Sahay, chairman of the Lokrakshak Recruitment Board (LRB), a body of the Gujarat Police Constable Recruitment exam as saying. Although the source from where the paper leaked has not been confirmed yet, he added.
A Senior Congress leader, Shaktisinh Gohil, claimed that people of the ruling party are involved and has demanded to set up a Special Investigative Team (SIT) under a sitting high court judge. “The state government is playing with the future of the youth”, he added.
Actions been taken
Reportedly, Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, after getting complete information on the issue, has directed the state Home Department to take immediate action.
After the cancellation of the paper, the candidates who had travelled from far off places felt perplexed and blocked the roads and burnt tyres in protest in many parts of the state.
“Exam is likely to be conducted within a month and the students will be provided free transportation from the State Government whenever the exam is re-conducted”, stated the CMO press release.

As difficult as it is for the authority to arrange for the re-examination, it is equally stressful for the candidates to prepare themselves all over again for the same. Frequent paper leaks in the country raise many questions on the administration especially when members of a particular party are involved. This is not an isolated incident as in the past, there have been instances of leaked governmnet recruitment question papers selling for hefty prices. The Logcial Indian community urges the authorities to look into the matte and take actions against those who are found to be guilty.
