PM Modi Announces Grand Museum For All Former Prime Ministers In Delhi

Supported by

Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaking at a book launch event of Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh on Wednesday announced that a grand museum for all former prime ministers will be built in Delhi.

Singh’s book titled “Chandra Shekhar – The Last Icon of Ideological Politics” is based on former prime minister Chandra Shekar.

Modi, expressing concern, said that some national-level leaders and former state heads were not given their due recognition, their efforts have been intentionally erased by a section of the political class. But, I feel sorry for them and for the political section which did so.

The upcoming museum will bring “new political culture” that would go way beyond “political untouchability. They created labels, false narratives and titles for our former PMs,” he added.

PM Modi said “There is a ‘Jamat’ in the country that are habitual of demonising the good work of prime ministers so that they could not be remembered. Like for example, they started questioning what PM used to drink—for Morarji Desai— instead of the work he did. Or they would spread lies about PM falling asleep in a meeting”. He urged the families to share all essential things related to former prime ministers, to keep them in the museum.

Modi went on to say that attempts were made to tarnish the image of B R Ambedkar and Sardar Patel after independence.

As a matter of fact India’s first Prime Minister Pt. Nehru house (Teen Murti Bhavan) was converted into a museum and library, after his death.

The new museum will be built at Nehru’s Teen Murti Estate, and Congress is sceptical of the project as they believe that is an effort to erode Jawaharlal Nehru’s legacy.

The government will spend Rs 280-crore for the project, and the museum will be first in the country to introduce augmented reality technology.
