In the first case of granting citizenship after the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) by the parliament and it becoming an act, on 30 December, eight refugees from Sindh, Pakistan were given Indian Citizenship. CAA provides Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, who arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014. They have been residing in Kota, Rajasthan since the year 2000.

The Hindu Migrants from Pakistan had fled from the province of Sindh after facing religious persecution and were granted the certificates by the District Collector of Kota, Om Prakash Kasera.

Kasera said, “The Home Department of the state government has issued orders to provide citizenship to them. All eight people have been given citizenship.”

The new citizens expressed happiness and relief and on being asked about the same, one of them told Times Now, “We are very grateful to India for granting its citizenship to us. We are also happy that we can now lead our lives according to the Indian Constitution as its citizens.”

Another person mentioned, “We have been living here for 20-25 years and have never faced any problems.”

“We have always had the blessing and support of the people here”, he adds.

This move came after Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister said that CAA and NRC will not be implemented in the state. He was seen also expressing his discontentment with the actions of the Modi-led government.
