Government think-tank Niti Aayog’s School Education Quality Index (SEQI) released on September 30, Monday, revealed a huge disparity in the States’ performance in school education across India.

What Does The Index Say?

At the top is Kerala with a score of 76.6 percent, and Uttar Pradesh scored the lowest 36.4 percent.

Among the small states, Manipur bagged the top spot with 68.8 percent, and Arunachal Pradesh (24.6 per cent) came last in the category.

This index aims to evaluate the performance of States and Union Territories (UTs) in the school education sector.

Among the large states, the second position was bagged by Rajasthan with 72 percent. This was followed by Karnataka with 70 per cent and Andhra Pradesh with 69 percent. Tamil Nadu was the top performer in access and equity outcomes, while Karnataka led in learning outcomes.

Among Union Territories, Chandigarh (82.9 percent) bagged the top position, and Lakshadweep stood at the lowest with 31.9 percent.

The School Education Quality Index assessed states on the basis of learning outcomes, access, equity and infrastructure and facilities. The data for the index was collected for large states, small states and Union Territories (UTs).

West Bengal did not participate in the exercise.
