Delhi: NDMC School Teachers Allege Hindu & Muslim Students Are Being Assigned To Separate Sections

Supported by

Some teachers of the BJP-governed North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) have alleged that a primary school for boys in Wazirabad, Delhi has been segregating students and assigning separate sections along religious lines.

Teachers alleged that students have been reshuffled

The Indian Express accessed and analysed a section-wise break-up of the classes which goes on to show how the students of North MCD Boys’ School, Wazirabad village, Gali Number 9 have been reshuffled. Reportedly, some teachers from the school visited the MCD Zonal Office in Civil Lines some 20 days ago to bring the matter to the fore, however, they did not document their complaints in writing over a fear of getting targetted later.

A source quoted by the daily said that reshuffling of students only began after the teacher-in-charge, CB Singh Sehrawat took over on July 2 after the Principal’s transfer. While this year’s academic session began in April, changes were brought in after July. Sehrawat allegedly initiated the changes without consulting with the other teachers and when the latter tried to bring up the issue, Sehrawat responded with aggression and asked the teachers to do their job, said the source.

Teacher-In-Charge denies allegations

However, the teacher-in-charge denied that students have been divided on the basis of religion and said that reshuffling of students is a standard procedure and the present one was the management’s decision to try and ensure peace and a good learning environment for students in the schools. He further said that even though children do not understand religion, they sometimes fight over certain things as some children are vegetarian, which gives rise to differences. He said that it is important to look into the interests of all teachers and students. Reportedly, MCD schools only offer education till class V.

The Logical Indian spoke to officials of the education department at the MCD Zonal Office in Civil Lines who acknowledged that a complaint has been received and said that the department will conduct an inspection on Wednesday, October 10. The official said, “The inspector will visit the school today and then he will give us a report.”

Meanwhile, the daily reported that some parents of the school children were unaware of the new development and only came to know after their wards informed them about it. One mother has said that if this act is found to be true, it is wrong and added, “this is very disturbing.”

Reportedly, mother of a Class IV student denied these events until her son said, “There are no Hindu boys in my class. We were together until a few months back. A good friend of mine is no longer in the same classroom.”

Recently, BJP-ruled NDMC had been issued a circular by the Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) over the recital of ‘Gayatri Mantra’ during morning assemblies in schools which are owned by the former’s education department.
