The Haryana Police has recently trashed the communal angle in the incident where a Muslim youth was attacked in Gurugram. Mohammad Barkat had alleged that he was beaten and forced to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Several media house including The Logical Indian reported on his initial claim. However, as per Police’s statement, the CCTV footage doesn’t match Barkat’s allegation.
Additional details have also emerged in the Begusarai incident where a Muslim hawker was shot at and asked to ‘go to Pakistan’. As per The Indian Express report, Mohammed Qasim has not mentioned any ‘provocative remark’ in his complaint and said that he was attacked following an argument over bargaining.
CCTV Footage Doesn’t Match Claims: Police
The Haryana Police told the media on May 29 that investigation into the Gurugram incident revealed that there was no ‘deliberate attempt’ to disrupt the communal harmony.
Police Department spokesperson, Subhash Bokan said that immediately after receiving the complaint, the police rushed to the spot. A statement of the victim was recorded. Under sections 147/149/153-A/323 and 506, an FIR was also registered. Following investigation was carried under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner, as per reports.
In the FIR, Barkhat said the attackers forcefully removed his skullcap and told him that he wasn’t allowed to wear it in the area.
Bokan said, “The two can be seen pushing each other…It wasn’t a huge scuffle…just a few slaps. It lasted for three to four minutes. No passerby interfered. He wasn’t asked to chant Jai Shri Ram. That’s a rumour. There is no communal angle to this case.”
Begusarai Attack
A Muslim man was shot at, in Begusarai, Bihar. As per the man Mohammed Qasim, he was shot by a drunk youth named Rajiv Yadav. He also added that when he told Yadav his name, he abused him and said ‘tumko to Pakistan me hona chahiye (you should have been in Pakistan)’. Since Yadav had a pistol in hand, nobody came forward to help Qasim.
The social media was abuzz terming the incident to be a hate crime.

However, As per reports, Qasim in his complaint has said that an inebriated Yadav, following an argument over bargaining, shot at him. He has not mentioned any ‘provocative remark’ in his statement.
Begusarai SP Awkash Kumar told The Indian Express, “We have lodged a case against Rajiv Yadav for an attempt to murder and also under provisions of Arms Act. Our investigation shows Yadav shot at Qasim after an argument during bargaining for some goods. In his written statement to police, Yadav only mentioned being shot at after an argument. There is no mention of any such thing that he is seen saying in the video.”
