A mentally- challenged woman was gang-raped at a public park in Delhi and was left to die by the perpetrators on September 15. The girl was found in a semi-conscious state at the Indraprastha Park near the Sarai Kale Khan bus station.
The survivor aged between 22-23 is in critical condition and has been shifted to a hospital in Delhi where she is undergoing treatment.
The incident came to the notice of police when a few locals noticed a girl lying in the bushes at the Indraprastha Park. Upon inquiry, it was revealed that the girl was living at the Sarai Kale Khan bus stand for the past couple of days.
On Sunday when she went for a stroll in the park, some miscreants attacked her. Two unidentified men approached her on the pretext of providing food and later dragged her behind the bush where they took turns raping her. The two later fled the spot.
The police found her with all her clothes torn and bite marks on her body, along with several injuries.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) confirmed the incident and said that seven police teams have been set up to identify and arrest the miscreants responsible for the crime.

Reports also suggest the survivor was mentally-challenged as she was not able to give a detailed description of the attackers to the police.

The cruel incident has once again raised the question – Are women anywhere safe in Delhi? Can a woman go out at night without worrying the number of times men lurk at her? It is saddening to see that even after 70 years of Independence and with an abundance of high-end technology around us, women are not even safe in public places.
A five-year-old girl was raped by two boys in a park in Delhi in the month of July. The minor was rushed to the hospital by her mother.
In the month of April, a 50-year-old mentally ill woman was allegedly raped in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar.
A 35-year-old sanitation worker allegedly raped a four-year-old in a public toilet in west Delhi’s Naraina in February.
There was no outrage, no protest marches, no change in the law and order after any of these incidents. We at The Logical Indian will continue to raise questions against these heinous crimes irrespective of frequency and the place of the incident.
