Controversial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and Malegaon bombing accused, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur has been nominated to the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Defence.
The 21-member Parliamentary consultative committee is led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Bombay High Court, in April 2017, granted her bail on deteriorating health grounds. Later, the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act was dropped from the chargesheet against her by the National Investigation Agency.
She is currently under trial for multiple charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Thakur joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on 17 April 2019 and was declared as the BJP candidate for Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency for 2019 elections.
Thakur stirred controversy during 2019 general elections for her provocative comments made on 26/11 martyr, Hemant Karkare. She also landed in a major row when she called Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, Nathuram Godse, a patriot.
The BJP issued a show-cause notice to Sadhvi Pragya over the remark.
She defeated former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in the Lok Sabha elections.
Now, Thakur is all set to be a part of the defence committee. The committee also comprised of detained leader of Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah and Congress leader Sharad Pawar.
