IFS Officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi, who was recently awarded the prestigious Magsaysay award for his exemplary integrity, courage and tenacity in uncompromisingly exposing and painstakingly investigating corruption in public office has donated the entire award money to AIIMS for the treatment of the poor patients.

As reported by The Times Of India, In a letter to the Insitute director of AIIMS, Chaturvedi has requested the hospital to use the amount for providing financial assistance to poor patients, especially those suffering from different types of cancer. The award money Chaturvedi recieved is Rs 19.85 lakh of which RS 5.63 lakh has to be deposited as advance tax.

Senior bureaucrat Sanjiv Chaturvedi initiated action in around 200 corruption cases during his stint as AIIMS CVO. He blew whistle on scams in Haryana and at AIIMS, was removed from his post of Chief Vigilance Officer. He dedicated his award to Sardar Patel.

Scams unearthed by Sanjiv Chaturvedi include:

-Financial irregularities from 2 senior AIIMS officials. A CBI case was filed and proceedings have been initiated against the named.

-Multi-crore racket at the Trauma Center involving the staff employed there.

-T R Mahajan, a stores officer who has since been suspended, was found to have circumvented rules to buy products like disinfectants and fogging solutions from a company owned by his son and daughter-in-law at higher rates.

Exposing scams appears to have been part of Chaturvedi’s career even during his tenure as IFS officer in Haryana [which apparently did not go down well with the Bhuipinder Singh Hooda – led Haryana state government].

He has been awarded the S R Jindal Prize for ‘Crusade against Corruption’ in 2011, along with Ashok Khemka.

The Logical Indian community salutes Sanjeev Chaturvedi for his audacity and making a diligent effort towards a better India
