In a heart-warming incident, a Member of Parliament (MP) of Kenya travelled to the city of Aurangabad in Maharashtra just to repay Rs 200 that he had borrowed from a grocer 23 years ago.

Richard Nyagaka Tongi, the lawmaker from the Nyaribari Chache constituency in Kenya, met the grocer Kashinath Gawli recently and it was all emotional. Gawli was overwhelmed with the fact that Tongi remembered him.

Tongi was a management student at Maulana Azad College from 1985-89 in Aurangabad. Gawli used to provide food to Tongi on a daily basis. After finishing college, when Tongi returned to his native country, he had an outstanding debt of Rs 200 with Gawli. Back then, Gawli had a grocery store in the Wankhedenagar locality, where Tongi used to stay.

Going down the memory lane, Tongi told the reporters, “I had a debt from 23 years ago that I had not paid, they had given me food, but I had not paid.” He said that after he returned to his country and got married, he took a vow to return to India one day and pay him back. He further said that now as he have repaid the money, his heart is at “peace”.

Tongi visited Aurangabad with his wife Michelle. He said that the journey to Aurangabad was an emotional one.
