Grounded Airlines Jet Airways Ltd founder, Naresh Goyal and his wife Anita Goyal were stopped to fly abroad from the Mumbai airport on May 25.

According to media reports, Dubai-bound Emirates flight, EK 507 along with 351 passengers and 17 crew members had to return from taxiway after the immigration authority denied the permission to fly.

Goyal & Family Deplaned

As per reports, since the Serious Fraud Investigation Office and Enforcement Directorate are enquiring cases related to Jet Airways, an order has been issued against Goyal and his family members to not flee the country.

Exact reasons as to why law enforcement agency stopped Goyal to fly abroad is not clear. Goyal was travelling for a meeting with executives of Gulf carrier Etihad and the Hinduja Group on the airline’s revival plan, mentioned the Business Today in a report. So far, the CBI has not registered any case related to Jet Airways crisis.

Following the denial of permission to fly, an Emirates spokesperson in a statement said, “Emirates is co-operating fully with relevant authorities & we abide by the laws of various countries we operate in.”

Last month, Jet Airways officers and staff association president, Kiran Pawaskar in a letter to the Mumbai police commissioner asked for the passports of directors and senior members of the Jet Airways management to be seized.

Jet Airways Shuts Down Operation

Last month, Jet Airways shut down its operation for not being able to clear its debt obligations of around 1,500 crores. The airline had failed to pay salaries to its employees for several months.

In March, Naresh Goyal and his wife Anita Goyal stepped down from the board of the cash-strapped airlines. The due stepped down after a consortium of lenders headed by the State Bank Of India (SBI) said that it is confident in resolving the ongoing cash crisis that has come upon Jet Airways before the end of March. Reportedly SBI had asked the Goyal family to step down from the board so that the spirit of the resolution is in line with the spirit of the bankruptcy code.
