Bystanders shot video of the gruesome incident, however, none dared to intervene. Abdul Khaja, an autorickshaw driver from Chanchalguda area, attacked the victim, Shakeer Qureshi by repeatedly hitting on his head, neck and shoulders. The video reportedly went viral on social media late last night. Some of the videos which circulated on social media show a few cops standing some meters away from the scene who did not make any efforts to stop the accused.

However, one traffic cop, Najeebuddin attempted to move Khaja away from the victim, but he too, backed off after Khaja threatened him while brandishing his knife. He alerted the control room and the local police station about the incident, reported The Times Of India

In the video, he can even be seen kicking around the body as he walked in his blood-stained shirt. It was only after that police arrived in large numbers to the spot and he was arrested. Reportedly, he did not even resist the cops who took him away.

What had happened?

According to The News Minute, 30-year-old Abdul Khaja had gotten into an argument with Shakir Qureshi, who ran a mutton shop. The two had gotten into a heated argument over rent for an autorickshaw that Khaja’s relative had rented from Qureshi.

Amber Kishore Jha, South Zone DCP, Hyderabad Police told The News Minute that the incident had occurred around 7:15 pm and Khaja was drunk at that time. The deceased had rented an auto to a relative of the accused and Qureshi was in possession of a knife. The argument ended in death.

Reportedly, Khaja claimed that Qureshi was abusing his family. Police claim that Khaja snatched Qureshi’s knife and killed him. An official police statement read, “In Mirchowk police station limits one murder occurred just now. Because of immediate response by a constable, accused was arrested within 10 minutes from the spot.”

This is the second such instance in Hyderabad where a man was hacked to death in broad daylight. On September 26, a man was hacked to death in public in Hyderabad’s Attapur.
