Humanity Over Religion: Hindus Donate Land For Burial Ground To Muslims In Ayodhya

Supported by

In a gesture towards communal harmony, Hindus in Ayodhya district of Uttar Pradesh have donated land to Muslims to use as a burial ground.

Local BJP MLA Khabbu Tiwari initiated the gesture and said that the tradition of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood in Ayodhya is nothing new. He also said that the friendship between the two communities will continue forever.

“This was a small token of love from Hindus to Muslims. I hope this amity will continue,” the MLA told the media.

The dispute

The land is in Belarikhan village under the Gosaiganj Assembly constituency. The registered deed for 1.25 bissass of land, was signed on June 20.

The land is adjacent to a graveyard and has been a bone of contention between the two communities for years. The signatories to the land are Ram Prakash Bablu, Ram Singar Pandey, Ram Shabad, Jiya Ram, Subhash Chandra, Rita Devi, Vindhyachal and Awadesh Pandey.

Sub-registrar S.B. Singh confirmed the transfer of land to the Muslims for the graveyard and told the media that it’s a gift from the Hindu community through a proper deed and stamp duty.

The land belonged to Hindus as per records, but some Muslims had buried their loved ones on the land. There were plenty of disputes about the same, but now the matter seems to have been resolved with the heartfelt gesture.

Chief Imam at Gosaiganj Jama Masjid Haji Abdul Haq said that this act of the Hindu community is an excellent example of harmony between the two communities.

“The deed is now in favour of the Qabristan Committee, Gosainganj and it will soon be entered in revenue records,” Vais Ansari, President of the Qabristan Committee, told The Times Of India.
