One Crore Bounty On Sidhu’s Head For Insulting Yogi: Hindu Yuva Vahini

Supported by

A reward of Rs 1 crore was announced by the right-wing faction, Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV), on Tuesday to anyone who would behead former cricketer and Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu for giving an intolerable and abusive commentary towards UP CM Yogi Adityanath in a rally in Rajasthan. Tarun Singh, the president of HYV, Agra unit, threatened to ‘kill’ Sidhu if he ever visited Agra.

Navjot Singh Sidhu targeted by activists

Navjot was targeted by Tarun over his connections with Pakistan and was accused of praising the nation and on the other hand giving unpardonable statements against his own country. “Either Sidhu will have to cross to Pakistan or we will not let him live in India in those circumstances,” he said.

HYV and Vishwa Hindu Mahasangh activists further raised slogans against Sidhu in an attempt to tarnish his image, reported The Times of India.

Navjot’s statement made while addressing a rally on Sunday in Ramganj Mandi, that infuriated the activists was regarding BJP once not being devoted to the folk of the country. “Even chowkidar’s (referring to Prime Minister) dog is not loyal. He is also a chor (thief). And Yogi is the biggest ‘Bhogi’,” he had said.

What Navjot said in the rally

In the rally on Sunday, Navjot attacked the ruling government making several statements. Besides giving statements against Yogi Adityanath, he attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of sitting on Ambani’s lap. “Congress gave us four Gandhis, Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi. But the BJP gave us three Modis, Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and the one sitting in Ambani’s lap, Narendra Modi,” he had said.

He further accused the democracy of being run by goons under the BJP and raised questions on “fake promises” made by Narendra Modi, and on the country’s increasing corruption, said a report by Nagaland Post.

The Logical Indian take

Freedom of speech and expression has become a joke in this country. Every other day, someone or the other is openly threatening someone’s life and the administration and authorities are sitting squat. Last year, BJP member Suraj Pal Amu announced a bounty on Deepika Padukone’s head because of the movie Padmavaat. Now, because Sidhu went to Pakistan and spoke out against Yogi Adityanath, another right-wing group flung into action demanding a beheading. In 2019, living in a modern country, where we are aspiring to be as shiny as Japan with a bullet train, demanding beheadings for offending feelings is archaic and draconian. Strict action should be taken against people like them who incite violence and hate.
