In order to get the “right to education” for their girl, a couple has resorted to the peaceful method of staging a dharna in front of a school for the past three months. The school has refused to grant admission to the four-year-old girl.

In 1886, St. Mary Convent School had been established in the name of God to provide education to girls keeping in mind values like social justice, secular education and desire for truth. Affiliated to ICSE this school in Allahabad imparts education to girls from Nursery to intermediate level (+2).

The nursery division of the school is known as St. Mary Nursery School. In April, forms for admission in LKG were issued after which 300 kids were granted admission. There was no written entrance test, but the school selected around 300 girls from around 5000 applicants according to the parameters set by the school.

The daughter of Raees Ahmad, a resident of Kareli, could not get admission.

When he could not find any other way, then Raees Ahmad started coming to school daily with his wife and daughter. He would sit in front of the school gate and teach his daughter. This incredible protest has been going on for the past three months but it fails to have any effect on the school. In a conversation with The Logical Indian, Raees Ahmad said that after the result he met the school principal, Sister Shweta, and requested her to admit his daughter but she said there are no more seats, but later the school admitted more students. This led to  Raees Ahmad questioning the transparency of the admission process through RTI. The query was not answered because the institution does not fall within the jurisdiction of RTI.

Iamin portal from Allahabad, called up the school administration to know their view about this amazing demonstration of the couple, who cover a distance of 10 kilometer daily and teach the girl at the school gate. The person who received the call acknowledged the entire incident but then refused to put the call through to the principal. On being called the second time, the receiver refused that any such incident was taking place in front of the school.

The Logical Indian community appreciates the peaceful way of demonstration resorted to by the couple and requests the school to look into the matter once again. The parents should either be provided full and satisfactory explanation by the school for not admitting the girl or there should be a provision where a person can know the reason of not being admitted by paying a minimal amount of fees.
