Ex-army Personal Arrested For Making Hoax Call, Claimed Terrorist Attack

Bengaluru police arrested an ex-Army man on April 26 for making a hoax call to Bengaluru police control room, threatening that major cities in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Pondicherry, Goa and Maharashtra will be hit by terror attacks.

He also claimed that 19 terrorists, who are holed up in Tamil Nadu, will bomb trains and buses in the cities.


Accused “possessed by some divine souls”

The police immediately sprung into action and contacted other state police, informed them about the possible bomb blasts, after which states were put on high alert. Meanwhile, investigating agency traced the caller who was later arrested from Avalahalli, a place in a rural district of Bengaluru.

This hoax call came days the horrific terror attack in Sri lanka, which made investigative agencies take the call seriously.

Police found that Sundaramurthy, the accused, was in a drunken state when he made the call. The accused also turned out to be a habitual drinker, reported NDTV.

“During interrogation, he told us that he gets possessed by some divine souls who make prophecies in his vision and his call was based on one such vision,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar.

Confessing to the crime, the accused further claimed that he made the call because he believed that bomb blasts similar to those that took place in Sri Lanka recently might occur in other cities as well, as reported by The Times Of India.

Police said that Sundaramurthy had served in the Indian Army for 20 years, and now works as a truck driver

Police has increased the security of government institutions and commercial establishments in order to prevent any untoward incident, and alerted people to contact police in case they find anything suspicious. Recently, terror attacks in Sri Lanka has claimed the lives of more than 200 people.
