UP: Employees Wear Helmets To Work As Protection From Crumbling Ceiling At District Electricity Dept

Supported by

As India becomes stricter with its traffic rules, especially by levying heavy fines for not wearing helmets while riding, employees of Electricity Department, Uttar Pradesh, have to follow the rule even when they are not travelling. In fact, they have to wear helmets all the time!

In a classic case of civic failure, employees of the electricity department in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, had to wear helmets inside the office due to the crumbling ceiling over their head.

The dilapidated office of the state department is posing a threat to the workers, as their office building can collapse on them any time; the ceiling rests on a thin and narrow iron pillar.

The pictures of these employees working while wearing helmets, posted by ANI, soon went viral.

One of the employees said that the condition of the building has been the same since he joined two years back. He added that authorities have been informed about their plight but no action has been taken so far.

However, this is not the first case of wearing helmets to the workplace that has surfaced on social media.

In 2017, employees working at the Bihar state government office located in East Champaran were also seen sporting the headgear as the office building remained to be weak and dilapidated.

Even the visitors and customers visiting the office would wear helmets before entering the government office.

Bihar government took no measure to ensure employees’ safety even when the building was declared weak and crumbling by the state’s building construction department in 2016.
