[Watch/Read] Eminent Personalities Write To PM Modi Seeking Arrest Of BJP MLA Kanwar Lal Meena

Supported by

More than 150 eminent personalities from all over India have written to PM Narendra Modi and CM Vasundhara Raje demanding arrest of Kanwarlal Meena, BJP MLA from Rajasthan. The MLA in question led a mob and attacked social activists on peaceful Yatra, who were raising awareness about government policies, schemes and transparency and accountability public offices. The attack left 12 injured, including women activists.

The attack happened on 16th January in Jhalawar district, which comes under CM’s constituency. Even though the MLA was caught on camera leading the attack, no action has been taken against him, making out the impunity being provided by the government to goons disguised as public representatives. The fact that he is an MLA of the ruling party makes this even more glaring and alarming.

Mr. Meena has innumerable cases against him and should be classified as a history-sheeter given his record of repeated offences. He is clearly confident that he has the protection of the law enforcement agency and the other powers that be. His remaining at liberty is a threat to the public at large and our democratic structure. It is also an affront to the rule of law.

The complete footage of him attacking social activists is here:

The Jawabdehi Yatra is a peaceful caravan of people committed to bringing about transparency and accountability. It attempts to raise awareness and uses methods of community monitoring including public hearings and the filing of grievances to promote better delivery of public services and entitlements. It is an effort that is to be appreciated, supported and strengthened, and those responsible for the attack upon it must face due process and the law.

The Logical Indian too demands that the MLA Kanwarlal Meena be arrested immediately and we hope that the party itself takes appropriate action against him.
