Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently congratulated Vijay Kumar, a tailer’s son who will be joining IIT Delhi along with his son Pulkit Kejriwal this year. Vijay Kumar was among the 4,953 students to enrol in the first batch of the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana after he cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission to IIT in his first attempt.
Kejriwal took to Twitter on Monday, August 27, to share the news.
मुझे बेहद ख़ुशी है कि इस वर्ष मेरा बेटा और इनका बेटा दोनों एक साथ IIT में जा रहे हैं। बरसों से ये प्रथा चली आ रही थी कि ग़रीब का बेटा अच्छी शिक्षा के अभाव में ग़रीब रहने पर मजबूर था। अब सबको अच्छी शिक्षा और ट्रेनिंग देकर हमने ग़रीब और अमीर के बीच की दूरी दूर की है https://t.co/UCCFJCkw7c

He also highlighted that the free coaching scheme under the Delhi government has given Vijay the opportunity to study in IIT and pursue engineering.
Kejriwal wrote on Twitter: “Vijay Kumar’s father is a tailor, his mother is a homemaker. I am very happy that he has got admission in IIT after the Delhi government provided him with free coaching. This was Baba Saheb’s (BR Ambedkar) vision, which is being fulfilled in Delhi.”

In another similar case, a daughter of a labourer qualified NEET after availing private coaching under the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana. Shashi, a student at Rajkiya Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya in GTB Nagar, has got admission in Lady Hardinge Medical College.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the scheme is giving wings to the dreams of the poor children.

The free coaching scheme was launched in 2017 by the AAP government for students from the Scheduled Castes preparing for competitive exams. The government is now planning to expand the benefit of the scheme to cover students belonging to OBC, ST and EWS quotas as well. At present, only students belonging to the SC category come under the ambit of the scheme.
The government claims that 35 students who availed the benefit under the scheme have cracked the NEET and JEE exams in 2019.
As per experts, the initiatives taken by Arvind Kejriwal and CM Manish Sisodia have improved the infrastructure and quality of education in the government-run schools in Delhi.
A few days back, the Delhi government came in to help students by bearing the Class 10 and Class 12 Board examination fees when the CBSE announced fee hike.
Manish Sisodia along with an order copy issued by the Directorate of Education, Delhi tweeted, “Delhi government will pay the CBSE board examination fees of all students of class X and XII in Delhi government schools, instructions have been issued to the schools to not to collect fees from students.”

The Delhi government also conducted ‘Mission Buniyaad’ campaign last year, under which the state government focused on ensuring that all children of Classes III to IX are able to read, write and learn basic maths.
