An Islamabad based blogger and a journalist was killed while he was with his uncle in the G-9/4 area of the city on Sunday night (June 15, 2019), reported Pakistan Today.
Muhammad Bilal Khan was hacked to death while his uncle, Ehtesham, was severely injured in the attack. Ehtesham is currently undergoing treatment at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences in Islamabad.
According to the police, Khan received a phone call from an unidentified person to come to G-9/4, whereupon he was taken into a forest and killed.
The 22-year-old has over 16,000 followers on Twitter, over 48,000 on his YouTube channel and over 42,000 followers on Facebook. Soon after his killing hashtag #Justice4MuhammadBilalKhan started trending on social media.
In one of the video circulating on Twitter, Abdullah, father of the deceased, said that his son’s “only fault was that he spoke about the Prophet (PBUH) and his companions.” Abdullah added that his son had no personal enmity.
A First Information Report (FIR) was registered under various sections including the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) on Sunday at Karachi Company police station.
Following the incident, Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari condemned the murder and assured that the government will investigate.
“Strongly condemn the murder of Bilal Khan. Disagreement and opposition to someone’s views simply cannot be translated into killing the person. Govt must & it will investigate and punish the killers – it is our responsibility to keep all our citizens secure under rule of law,” Shireen tweeted.
