Heavy downpour for the four consecutive days have killed nearly 40 people in Bihar while over 100 people have died in several rain-related in Uttar Pradesh. PM Modi has announced the central government’s support to provide all possible help for Bihar. While the Yogi government has said that no leaves will be granted to the government officials.

On Monday the NDRF teams rescued Deputy CM Sushil Modi from his residence where he was stranded for three days after the incessant rains.

India recorded its highest rainfall this Monsoon since 1994, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said classifying it ‘above normal’ as the season officially ended on Monday. However, rain-bearing winds still remain active over several parts of the country.
As many as 22 NDRF teams have been deployed and two Indian Air Force helicopters are carrying out relief and rescue operations in Bihar. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is closely monitoring the situation of states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai reported the Economic Times.
IMD Director General, Mritunjay Mohapatra said on Sunday, “The four-month monsoon season which is officially ending on Monday is unlikely to withdraw even till the weekend, prevailing over parts of Rajasthan, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.”
The state government of Uttar Pradesh mentioned that 79 people died over the past 48 hours in a report. The Yogi government said that no leave would be granted to the government officials, “Immediate provisions should be made to pump out water from the flooded areas and relief material should be provided to people affected by the flood. In view of the incessant rain, no official will be granted leave,” read a government statement quoting Adityanath.
Boats of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) are out to rescue people trapped in waterlogged streets on Bihar and UP. A recent bird eye view of Patna is released where the majority of the city is seen waist-deep submerged.
To express his surprise on the situation, Pratyay Amrit (Principal Secretary of Disaster Management Department) described the 200 mm of rainfall in 48 hours as “totally unexpected”. On Saturday, CM Nitish Kumar held a review meeting through video conferencing after weather office announces the red alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Bihar and eastern UP. After the prediction of weather office, the district administration has ordered to close the schools and colleges till Tuesday. For the aid, eighteen teams of the NDRF have been sent to the affected parts of Bihar and UP.
