A 17-year-old boy in Bihar’s Muzaffarnagar district died on Sunday, November 18, three days after he was thrashed by a few men who were trying to rape his mother. The incident reportedly occurred inside a fodder shop on November 15.

Boy thrashed for resisting mother’s rape

The Times Of India reported that the mother and the son were residents of Dharampur village. On November 15, they had gone to the fodder shop which is owned by Rajendra Sah. Reportedly, at the shop, his son, Pappu, tried to rape her. Sahebganj SHO Dharmaveer Bharti told the daily that after the son tried to resist his mother’s rape, Pappu and a few of his friends thrashed him.

The boy sustained multiple injuries and reportedly died at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on November 18.

Meanwhile, the incident came to the fore when irate residents of the village on November 19 blocked state highway-74 for eight hours with the minor’s body. The villagers were demanding immediate arrests of the culprits and the blockade was lifted after the SHO assured the immediate arrests of the men.

While an FIR has been registered on the basis of the boy’s father’s written complaint, the accused have been on the run ever since the FIR was lodged. The police are trying to nab the accused.

Supreme Court slammed Bihar Government

The Bihar government has come under the radar after the horrors of the Muzaffarnagar shelter home came to the fore. The Supreme Court in August raised concerns over women’s safety in the state and said that no one is bothered.

India Today reported Justice Madan B Lokur as saying, “What is going on in our country? Girls and women are getting raped left, right and centre. As per NCRB figures, in the year 2016 astonishing number of 38,947 rapes were committed – which means 106 rapes a day, every six hours somebody is raped. Look, somebody has to wake up these incidents must stop.”
