Painting Of Mahatma Gandhi, PM Fetches Highest Bid Of Rs 25 Lakh

The exhibition cum e-auctioning of mementos received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew to a close on October 25, with the highest bid of Rs 25 lakh for a painting of Modi with Mahatma Gandhi.

All the money obtained from the e-auction will be donated towards funding the NamamiGange Mission. The e-auction organised by the Union Culture Minister kicked-off on September 14 to sell a total of 2,772 mementos gifted to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

These items were put to display at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi. Other items on display were sculptures, shawls, jackets, paintings, and traditional musical instruments. The lowest base price of the item kept on display was Rs 500 for things like small statue of Lord Ganesh and decorative wooden box in lotus shape. The highest base price of Rs 2.5 lakh was set for an acrylic painting with a tri-colour background of the Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister, which received a final bid of Rs 25 lakh.

Another framed photograph of the prime minister receiving blessings from his mother, with a base price of Rs 1000, received a base of Rs 20 lakh. Apart from these, other popular items in the auction were Manipuri Folk Arts, which was sold at Rs 10 lakh, a metallic sculpture of a cow feeding a calf with a base price of Rs 4,000 was sold at Rs 10 lakh, and a metallic statue of Swami Vivekanand with a base price of Rs 4,000 received a final price of Rs 6 lakh.

Initially, the e-auction was scheduled to finish by October 3. However, it was extended for another three weeks. As of now, all the items that went for auction are sold out.
