In a stunning turn of events surrounding the allegations of rape on self-appointed Godman and spiritual guru Asaram Bapu, and his son Narayan Sai, the prime witness of the said crime was murdered yesterday evening in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.

The person was 35-years-old Akhil Gupta. While returning to his home in the evening, he was shot by unidentified assailants on Jansath Road, under the New Mandi police station area. Although he was rushed to medical care, he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Mr. Gupta was a cook and one of Asaram Bapu’s personal helpers.

He had been questioned by Gujarat Police in 2013 regarding the rape allegations against Asaram. Reportedly, he had given his statements before a Gandhinagar court.
