Spreading awareness on staying fit, Lt General Alok Singh Kler cycled from Delhi to Jaipur with his two sons – Arman and Aiman, and other army officials to take charge of the Sapta Shakti Command as 10th General Officer Commanding-in-chief.
On the evening of August 31, Saturday the army men began their ride from Delhi and reached the Pink city at 8 am on Sunday. The army men covered the 280 km stretch in 14 hours.
Coincidentally, Lt Gen Kler began his journey on the day PM Modi kicked off the ‘Fit India’ campaign in Delhi. He said fitness and army were synonymous to each other. “It’s the basic responsibility of every soldier to keep himself fit,” he added.

“I always try to give out the message of the importance of physical fitness. I believe in demonstrating what I say or believe in. And what better way to enthuse the soldierly spirit among Army officers and jawns than demonstrate it myself,” the 58-year-old was quoted by The Times Of India.
Lt Gen Kler had earlier cycled to Jhansi and Ambala Command to take charge. He further said cycling is a terrific workout and that he is passionate about it.
Apart from being an avid cyclist, Lt Gen Kler is an environmentalist and a wildlife enthusiast. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, and the Indian Military Academy he was commissioned into Armoured Crops on June 1982. He also had an important role in tackling several counter-insurgency /terrorism mission in Jammu & Kashmir and North-eastern sector.
