Piloting Her Dream To Reality: 27-Year-Old From Odisha Becomes First Tribal Woman Commercial Pilot

Defeating all odds, 27-year-old tribal from Odisha’s Maoist-hit Malkangiri has become the first tribal woman commercial pilot from the region. Daughter of police constable Mariniyas Lakra, Anupriya has successfully beaten all odds to fulfill her dream and is all set to join Indigo Airlines as a co-pilot later this month.

Anupriya Madhumati Lakra dropped out of engineering to join the Pilot Training Institute in Bhubaneswar in 2012. With her sheer determination and hard work, Lakra is now all set to fly her first aeroplane. Setting an example for other girls of her community to take charge of their dreams and soar high. On her big achievement, Chief-Minister, Odisha, Naveen Patnaik took to Twitter to congratulate. CM Patnaik also urged people to take Lakra as their inspiration to dream big and achieve it with perseverance reported Hindustan Times.

“I am happy to learn about the success of Anupriya Lakra. The success achieved by her through dedicated efforts and perseverance is an example for many,” Mr Patnaik tweeted. Delhi Cabinet Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam also congratulated Lakra on Twitter for her remarkable success.

Lakra is the daughter of Mariniyas Lakra and Jamaj Yashmin Lakra.  Her father is a constable in Odisha Police while her mother is a homemaker. Anupriya completed her matriculation from a convent in Malkangiri and higher secondary from a school in Semiliguda.

On Lakra’s success, her father said, “We are very happy that her dream of becoming a pilot has now become a reality. She will be working as a co-pilot in a private airline. It is a big achievement for somebody from a backward district like Malkangiri. Her success has come after seven years of hard work,” he said.

Lakra’s mother elated over her success, said, “I am very happy. It is a matter of pride for the people of Malkangiri. Her success will inspire other girls.”  Her mother also told that Lakra has always been a passionate individual who works day and night to transmute her dreams into reality. NDTV reports.
