Using Aadhaar details, Haryana Police reunited a 5-year old girl with her family in Haryana’s Panchkula. Reportedly, the girl, identified as Khushi, has been missing for three months from her home in Patiala.

Biometric details revealed her address

Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Haryana Police reunited the girl with her family,  who went missing on July 24 from Patiala, Punjab.

According to NDTV  reports, A missing report was filed by her family at the Anaj Mandi Police Station in Patiala. A day later, she was found at Ambala Railway Station, from where she was sent to Bal Sadan orphanage in Panchkula, following the requisite norms.

As per The Tribune, a team of four AHTU officials started the investigation to find her family. During the course of the investigation, they sought the help of Aadhaar Card office to get details about the child.  

A police spokesperson said that the AHTU team visited the Aadhaar office in Chandigarh’s Sector-17 to get details about the girl. Using her biometric details, her address was traced back to Patiala. When her photo was shared with Patiala Police, the missing report filed at Anaj Mandi Police Station was found.

The child was reunited with her family at Panchkula after completing required formalities.

Aadhaar has helped trace missing persons before

There have been many such cases where Aadhaar details have been helpful in reuniting missing persons with their family.  In July 2017, a speech impaired boy was reunited with his family in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh using Aadhaar details. Around the same time, another boy who was missing for over two years was reunited with family in Maharashtra’s Latur district.
