In another gruesome incident, a three-year-old girl was subjected to brutal torture and rape before she was murdered. Reportedly, her unclad body was found in a vacant room in Guga Colony, Sector 66 of Gurugram on the morning of November 12. During the post-mortem examination, a 10 cm-long stick was found inserted in the child’s private parts.
What had happened?
According to News18, the child had gone missing the day before, however, the parents did not file a missing person’s report and made efforts to find the girl on their own. An officer said that the body was found by a neighbour in a pool of blood with bricks lying on the body and her face covered in a polythene bag.
The Hindustan Times reported that the accused has been identified as a 20-year-old Sunil Kumar who is a resident of Naugaon Village in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh. Two police teams have been formed to track down the accused, who came to the neighbourhood, just last week, to visit his mother and sisters. The accused has been missing since the incident.
A case has been registered under Section 302 (murder) and Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against Kumar.
An initial probe has revealed that on Sunday morning, the victim, who was playing with two other girls in the slum, was approached by the accused. The two girls saw her leave with the accused and reported the incident to their families. However, the police weren’t made aware of the incident until the body was discovered the next day. The girl’s clothes were lying near the body.
Meanwhile, Dr Deepak Mathur, the forensic expert associated with this case has said that the girl suffered multiple injuries all over her body and her death was caused by a head injury which resulted in excessive internal bleeding. Bruises on different parts of her body indicate that she was tortured as well.
Crimes against children
Instances of rape of minors seem to become increasingly common. The National Crime Records Bureau data for 2016 which compiled rape cases in India showed that out of all cases, 43.2% of cases involved minors in 2016. Reported cases of sexual abuse against minors have seen an exponential rise over the years. The horrific details of the Kathua and Unnao rape cases where the victims were an eight-year-old and a 16-year-old, respectively, were enough to run a chill down the spine. In fact, as per the NCRB report for the year 2016, the crimes against women had gone up 13.6% from 2015, 34.4%.of which were cases under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act).
Rape is a heinous crime and those who are found guilty should be subjected to strict punishments. The Logical Indian urges the authorities to look into the matter and bring justice to the memory of an innocent child.
