At the age of 21, Karishma Mehta started Humans of Bombay in January 2014 with a simple Facebook page and a mission to make strangers feel connected. She was an avid reader of the Humans of New York blog and always wondered why Bombay didn’t have it’s own version. One Sunday afternoon she decided to go for a ‘shoot’ on the streets of Bombay and even though 9 out of 10 people said ‘no’ to speak with her…the 10th person; an old lady spoke with her for 40 minutes and that’s how it all began.

In 2 years the blog has grown to over 600,000 organic users and has had a wide impact in terms of raising funds to creating awareness…but not without its ups and downs. There were days when people didn’t want to converse or get photographed and many a times when people outright refused to even stop. There were a lot of questions in the beginning, like ‘where is this going?’
or ‘what’s the point of it?’ but for Karishma, her passion trumped everything else. She kept pushing, kept growing it and finally two years on she’s decided to take the next big step.

A few days ago, she released the pre-launch link for the Humans of Bombay Book, something she has been working on for a year. The idea behind the book is simple — to have something tangible that perfectly depicts what Bombay is about. The book is the perfect mix of stories from the page, never seen before stories as well as iconic locations and scenes from Bombay which make it the maximum city. Something like has never been attempted before by and Indian author and Karishma is thrilled that her product can give people all over the world an insight into the city of dreams.

At 24, Karishma is a published author and created something that has impacted millions of lives all over the globe.
