In Budagumpa village of Koppal taluk, Karnataka, a shocking incident unfolded on July 25, 2025, when Netravati, a married woman, conspired with her lover Shyamanna to murder her husband, Dyamanna Vajrabandi.

The motive surfaced after Dyamanna discovered their extramarital affair and opposed it vehemently. Shyamanna fatally attacked Dyamanna with a steel rod borrowed from a local garage at the victim’s agricultural land and later doused the body with petrol and set it ablaze to destroy evidence.

In a disturbing juxtaposition, Netravati remained at home, celebrating the Naga Panchami festival alone, fabricating a story that her husband had travelled to Dharmasthala.

Suspicious behaviour detected by Dyamanna’s brothers led to a missing person complaint to the Munirabad police, who arrested both conspirators after securing confessions. Police Superintendent Ram L Arasiddi disclosed details of the investigation and arrests at a press conference, bringing the grim case to light.

A Sinister Contrast: Murder Under the Veil of Tradition

The heartbreak of a deep betrayal is magnified by the chilling fact that Netravati celebrated the Naga Panchami festival, a revered occasion worshipping the serpent deity believed to protect from harm, just as the brutal murder took place.

Despite being married with three children, Netravati had maintained an illicit relationship with Shyamanna, a truck driver from the neighbouring village of Kamanur. Various weeks of clandestine meetings finally ended in a deadly confrontation after Dyamanna discovered their affair and threatened to break it up.

The couple meticulously planned the murder, choosing a remote spot away from the village, and after the crime, Netravati secluded herself with her phone off for five days, attempting to evade suspicion a ploy that failed and raised alarms among family members.

Investigation Unveils Dark Underpinnings

Upon receiving the missing person complaint, the Munirabad police team led a methodical investigation uncovering the sequence of events.

The borrowed steel rod, which served as the blunt weapon to kill Dyamanna, was stealthily returned to the local garage post-murder, evidence that initially obscured the crime.

Detailed questioning and cross-examination brought full confessions out of both Netravati and Shyamanna, exposing how a turbulent extramarital affair escalated to cold-blooded homicide.

This tragic episode has shaken the tight-knit community, forcing reflection on social issues such as marital fidelity, jealousy, and the potentially lethal consequences of unchecked personal conflicts within rural India.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

The Budagumpa murder case is a stark reminder of the critical importance of fostering empathy, open dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution in communities. It reveals how underlying personal grievances, if left unaddressed, can spiral into irreversible tragedy.

The Logical Indian believes it is essential to cultivate environments where individuals feel safe to communicate their issues without fear, judgement, or violence. Additionally, support systems must be strengthened to provide counselling and mediation, especially in socially sensitive matters like extramarital relationships and family discord.
