Two Accused In Kamlesh Tiwari Murder Arrested By Gujarat’s Anti-Terrorism Squad

Five days after the murder of Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari at his residence in Lucknow, the anti-terrorism squad of the Gujarat police arrested has arrested two accused on October 22. They were nabbed near the border of Gujarat-Rajasthan.

The police said that the accused- Ashfaq Hussain and Moinuddin Pathan killed the Tiwari for his controversial statement against the Prophet Mohammad that he had made in 2017. The comment back then led to a furore among the Muslims throughout the country.

Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police – OP Singh said that due to pressure from the police, the two accused could not stay at a place more than three to four hours. The accused were not able to use any electronic devices.

Kamlesh Tiwari was killed on October 17 at his residence cum office in Naka Hindola area in Lucknow. Post mortem reports revealed that he was stabbed 15 times near jaws and chest. The accused had also shot him on his face.


How Were The Two Arrested?

An initial investigation found a box of sweets at the spot of crime. The sweet was purchased from a shop in Surat, on the pretext of Diwali. Later the security footage revealed that the two accused went to meet Tiwari with a box of sweets. Further investigation found out that the duo had booked a hotel room in Lucknow hours before committing the crime. They have reserved the room with their original name. When the cops searched the room, they found the clothes and a blood-stained knife.

With the help of CCTV, the duo was spotted near Shajahanpur bus station, around 170 km away from Lucknow.

The Gujarat anti-terrorism squad said that after killing Tiwari, the two left Lucknow and escaped to the western state.

The squad spotted their location when one of them tried to contact their family after their money dried up. The two were unaware that their family members were under surveillance.

Soon after the murder, police had arrested five people from different parts of the country. Maulana Mohsin Sheikh, Rasheed Ahmed Pathan and Faizan were picked up from Gujarat in a joint operation with the Uttar Pradesh police.
