J&K: A poignant farewell was held on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, for Special Operations Group (SOG) jawan Amjad Ali Khan, who was martyred during an encounter with terrorists in the Sohan area of Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.
The ceremony, conducted at the District Police Lines in Udhampur, was attended by top officials including DGP Nalin Prabhat and IGP Bhim Sen Tuti. Khan, a resident of Mendhar in Poonch, succumbed to injuries sustained during a firefight on Monday evening after a small SOG team engaged a group of three terrorists.
Heart-wrenching scenes unfolded as his one-year-old daughter was seen crying for her father near his mortal remains, a moment that left family members and fellow security personnel in deep mourning.
Courage Under Fire In J&K
The incident began on the evening of 15 December, when security forces launched a targeted intelligence-based operation in the dense forest area of Majalta.
A small team of the elite SOG unit established contact with three terrorists believed to be hiding in the difficult hilly terrain. During the initial exchange of fire, Constable Amjad Ali Khan of the 22nd Battalion of the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) was critically wounded.
Despite desperate attempts by his colleagues to evacuate him under heavy fire, Khan passed away due to excessive blood loss. The operation is currently ongoing as the Army, CRPF, and J&K Police have cordoned off the forest to track down the fleeing militants.
Community Mourns Its Brave Son
Amjad Ali Khan was more than a soldier; he was the sole breadwinner for his family and a beloved resident of Pathanateer village in Mendhar. As his tricolour-draped coffin reached his native village, thousands of locals gathered to pay their final respects.

IGP Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, stated that the operation was launched following specific inputs which proved accurate, though the terrain made the rescue of the injured jawan extremely challenging.
J&K Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary also saluted the supreme sacrifice, noting that Khan’s devotion to duty would never be forgotten. The jawan is survived by his wife and young twin children, a son and a daughter, whose innocent calls for their father have become a symbol of the heavy human cost of the conflict.
The Logical Indian’s Perspective
At The Logical Indian, we believe that the true cost of war and terrorism is never found in statistics, but in the shattered lives of families left behind. The image of a toddler searching for her father amidst a sea of uniforms is a painful reminder of why we must relentlessly pursue a path of peace and dialogue.
We stand in solidarity with the family of Amjad Ali Khan, whose courage represents the highest form of service to the nation. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that the children of our martyrs are never abandoned and that their sacrifices lead to a future where such tragedies are no longer a reality.
