India’s men’s compound archery team made history by winning their first-ever gold medal at the World Archery Championships 2025, edging France 235-233 in a thrilling final. This landmark victory adds to the mixed team silver won by Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav, marking India’s best-ever medal haul at the championships.

Despite shooting an impressive 39 in the last set, just one point shy of a perfect 40, the Indian pair finished just short in what is now an Olympic event, signaling growing Indian excellence in archery. Officials praised the duo’s grit, consistency, and contribution to India’s rising global stature in compound archery.

Near-Perfect Final Against Top World Champions

The nail-biting final highlighted the extraordinary composure and skill of Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav as they matched shot-for-shot with the reigning world’s top-ranked Dutch pair. The Indian duo took an early lead after the first set, but a slight slip with three nines in the second allowed the Dutch team to edge ahead.

India’s perfect tens in the third and a strong 39-point finish showed tremendous resilience but fell just short of a perfect 40 by their opponents. Rishabh Yadav expressed pride in medalling at every major event where he teamed with Jyothi, underscoring their strong partnership and confidence despite the narrow loss. Indian archery officials highlighted their performances as a stepping stone for future Olympic glory.
