India’s medal tally reached 39 at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on September 28, with the country’s haul standing at four gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze medals. The latest tally followed Esha Singh’s silver in the women’s 25m pistol and Pincky Balhara’s bronze in women’s -78kg Kurash.

Across September 26 to 28, several Indian athletes also delivered notable performances, including Tejaswin Shankar, Sarvesh Kushare, Parul Chaudhary, Ancy Sojan Edappilly and Prachi Choudhary, adding medals, national records and personal bests to India’s campaign.

Esha Wins Silver

Esha Singh added India’s latest shooting medal after finishing runner-up in the women’s 25m pistol individual event. The 21-year-old, born in 2005, finished with 38 hits in the final and was level with China’s Xiao Jiaruixuan, leading to shoot-offs for gold. Xiao prevailed in the decider, leaving Singh with silver. The result adds to Singh’s strong Asian Games record.

At Hangzhou 2022, held in 2023, she won individual silver in both the 10m air pistol and 25m pistol events, besides helping India win team gold in the 25m pistol. Her 2026 silver makes her a two-time individual Asian Games silver medallist in the 25m pistol. President Droupadi Murmu congratulated Singh, saying her performance reflected “great skill, precision and consistency” and calling the medal a proud addition to her sporting journey.

Tejaswin Shankar Wins Decathlon Bronze

Tejaswin Shankar secured bronze in the men’s decathlon with 7,934 points after winning the final 1,500m event in 4:33.09. The result gave him his second consecutive Asian Games medal after his silver at Hangzhou 2022, where he scored 7,666 points. His 2026 score was higher than his previous Asian Games total, marking another strong continental performance for the Indian athlete.

Sarvesh Kushare Wins High Jump Silver

Sarvesh Kushare won silver in the men’s high jump after clearing 2.25m. Chinese Taipei’s Fu Chao-hsuan also cleared 2.25m but took gold on countback after clearing the height in fewer attempts. Kushare’s medal marked India’s return to the men’s high jump podium at the Asian Games after a 56-year gap. Earlier in 2026, he had set a national record of 2.31m.

Parul Chaudhary Wins Bronze

Parul Chaudhary won bronze in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase in 9:08.67, improving the Indian national record. The medal added to her Asian Games collection after she won silver in the steeplechase and gold in the 5,000m at Hangzhou 2022. Her latest performance combined another continental podium finish with a national-best mark.

Ancy Sojan Wins Long Jump Silver

Ancy Sojan Edappilly claimed silver in the women’s long jump with a best effort of 6.53m. China’s Huang Yingying won gold with 6.55m on her final attempt, finishing 2cm ahead of Sojan. The result gave Sojan her second consecutive Asian Games silver in the event. Earlier in 2026, she broke Anju Bobby George’s 22-year-old national record with a 6.88m jump at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships.

Prachi Choudhary Wins 400m Bronze

Prachi Choudhary won bronze in the women’s 400m with a personal-best time of 53.21 seconds on September 26. It was her first individual Asian Games medal. Choudhary had previously won silver as part of India’s women’s 4x400m relay team at the Hangzhou Games, making her latest result a breakthrough individual podium finish.

Pincky Balhara Wins Kurash Bronze

Pincky Balhara secured bronze in the women’s -78kg Kurash event on September 28. She defeated South Korea’s Lim Garam 3-0 in the quarterfinal before losing 0-5 to South Korea’s Sumin Mo in the semifinal. The result gave Balhara her second Asian Games medal, eight years after she won silver in the women’s -52kg category at Jakarta 2018. Her latest podium finish also gave India its third Asian Games medal in Kurash.

From Personal Bests to Repeat Podiums

The six athletes featured in this campaign represent different stages of India’s sporting journey. Shankar and Sojan added to their previous Asian Games medal records, while Kushare and Chaudhary reached major continental milestones in their respective events. Parul combined a medal with a national record, while Balhara returned to the Asian Games podium eight years after her first medal.

The Logical Indian’s Perspective

India’s medal tally of 39 reflects contributions from athletes across disciplines, with the latest results featuring established medallists as well as athletes reaching new milestones. The performances also underline the value of sustained preparation, competition exposure and opportunities across both established and less prominent sporting disciplines.

As the Aichi-Nagoya Games continue, the focus will remain on how these individual breakthroughs contribute to India’s wider sporting development.
