India finished fourth among 82 nations at the 2026 Pickleball World Cup in Da Nang, Vietnam, securing 41 medals, seven gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze. The performance marks a significant improvement from the country’s seventh-place finish at the previous edition.
A 48-member Indian contingent competed across Kids, Juniors, Open, Seniors and Masters team events, while more than 130 Indian athletes participated in individual categories. The Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) described the result as a major achievement and said it would now focus on strengthening grassroots development to help more Indian players compete on the global stage.
India Makes Major Strides
India’s fourth-place finish represents a notable rise in its standing in international pickleball. The country improved three places from its previous seventh-place finish, underlining the growing depth of Indian participation in the sport.
The 48-member official contingent represented India across five team categories, while the wider Indian participation crossed 130 athletes when individual events were included. The overall medal tally of 41 included a particularly strong showing in the individual competitions, with athletes from different age groups contributing to India’s success.
IPA CEO Aditya Khanna congratulated the contingent, describing the fourth-place finish as “a huge statement”. He said India would aim for an even higher position at the next edition.
Young Players Lead Charge
India’s performance also highlighted the contribution of its younger athletes. The Kids team, led by Veer Shah, won a silver medal, with Shah also being recognised as the best captain in the Kids category.
The Junior team, led by Arjun Singh, finished fourth after losing to hosts Vietnam in the quarter-finals. Purvansh Patel, who was part of the junior contingent, produced one of India’s standout individual performances by winning gold in the Under-18 Boys’ Singles.
These results point to a growing pipeline of young Indian players who are already competing against international opposition at major tournaments. Their performances could prove important as India looks to build a stronger presence in the sport over the coming years.
Veterans Deliver Gold Medals
Experienced Indian players also played an important role in the country’s medal haul. Bhushan Akut emerged as one of India’s biggest individual performers, winning three gold medals in the 60+ Men’s Singles, 60+ Men’s Doubles with Ashok Rohira and 60+ Mixed Doubles.
Fayrouz Zaidi won gold in the 40+ Women’s Singles, while Vivek Reddy took the top spot in the 40+ Men’s Singles. Harsh Mehta added a bronze medal in the Open Pro Men’s Doubles.
The combination of performances from younger competitors and experienced players demonstrates the breadth of India’s participation across different age groups. It also highlights how pickleball is attracting athletes across generations rather than remaining limited to one age bracket.
Tough Team Battles Continue
While India’s medal tally was impressive, its team campaigns also showed the level of competition still separating the country from the top three.
The Open team, led by Harsh Mehta, lost 2-4 to the USA in the quarter-finals, while the Masters team was eliminated by Vietnam at the same stage. The Seniors team exited in the round of 16 after losing to New Zealand.
These results show that India is increasingly capable of competing at the international level, while also highlighting areas where its team performances can improve.
IPA President Suryaveer Singh Bhullar said the association was “immensely proud” of the athletes, coaches and managers, adding that their performances had placed India firmly on the global pickleball map.
Grassroots Growth Remains Key
The next challenge for Indian pickleball will be to turn this international success into a stronger sporting ecosystem at home. Khanna said the IPA’s focus would now shift towards improving grassroots pickleball in India so that more emerging players can get opportunities to develop and compete internationally.
For a sport that continues to expand its reach, creating access to coaching, competitions and training facilities could help ensure that India’s fourth-place finish is not an isolated achievement.
