It was quite late. I wasn’t getting any vehicle to come back home. Finally got a rickshaw from Advisor to Battala. He asked for 30 bucks as it was 10.45 but I said 20 and he agreed.

A friend of mine was with me and he asked him to drop him to his home and he will pay extra 10 bucks as it was nearby only. We were discussing something in English and we reached the 1st destination in no time. After dropping him the man asked me where and what I studied.

I told him everything, and then he said, ‘you guys had a party right? and you know you guys are so funny, I was listening to your conversation and I was assuming that you guys studied outside of Tripura’ (I was shocked for a while) and also said that he had a daughter who is studying Bsc nursing in Guwahati, added she secured 72% this year.

Later on he added that he wanted to complete his Bsc (Physics Hons) but couldn’t because of economic instability. Wasted few years by the fake promises made by the politicians and lastly they said to pay 2lakhs if he want a job, and they were aware of his situation and knew that he couldn’t so they said so. He had no other options left that time so he chose this occupation.

‘I won’t let this happen to my daughter no matter what. I know and I do believe she will make me proud and I don’t have to do this job anymore’, he said.

I saw hope, I saw pride, I saw dreams in his eyes.

Hats off to this gentleman.
